I’m from a military family and from 1983-1991 I lived in Europe. I wasn’t exposed to a lot of pop culture, so when we moved back to the States I was drawn to The Simpsons—which I wasn’t supposed to watch. As a child I thought my sleeping bag had special powers and it would help me stay awake to watch The Arsenio Hall Show.
