Blanket Stories: Transportation Object, Generous Ones, Trek

A sculpture commissioned for the Haub Family Galleries at the Tacoma Art Museum

I was born in Tacoma. I grew up on the South End and graduated from Lincoln Hign School. I am a first-generation college student. This blanket is a proxy for my WSU Pendleton blanket. It represents my journey from Tacoma to Pullman. My life was changed because of higher education. Today I am the chancellor and CEO of the Pierce College District. 65% of our students are first generation students. For the last 36 years, I have had the opportunity to be in my hometown at Pierce College helping to make a difference in the lives of our students and impacting our community and families as our students find their ways to realize their possibilities.
