This coverlet was made by Sarah Harmon before her marriage to Charles Henry Shoemaker, August 2, 1860. The wool is home-spun and -dyed, woven on a hand loom. There were four of these coverlets. Each granddaughter was given one. Irene Shoemaker Coler received hers at the time of her marriage, February 9, 1924, from her father Joseph Clifton Shoemaker, second son of Charles Henry and Sarah Harmon Shoemaker. This coverlet is 156 years old.
